thoughts from a traveler
because nothing makes sense
I’m pretty well-traveled — I wouldn’t say that I’ve reached full-on globetrotter status, but the countries I’ve traveled to number well into the dozens. When I travel, there’s nothing I love more than connecting with someone local. And because I usually have my camera with me, I’m able to collect tangible evidence of some of those connections. Here is a tiny sample from my archives:
If there’s one thing about travel, it’s that it reminds you how tiny our planet is. How interconnected we all are. And while I’m certainly no geopolitical expert, I do know two things:
You can’t judge a country’s people by its government. Ever.
The things that connect us far outnumber the things that separate us. Always.
This weekend’s news — including the cavalier manner in which global leaders send young people into war, to say nothing of the bombing of Iranian schoolchildren — leaves me in dumbfounded anger and grief. I literally don’t know what to say.
Except:
May we find our way to each other, despite the actions of the people who run our countries.
May we find peace.
