I'm embarking on a new and completely unexpected hobby this week: swimming. Didn't see it coming, but excited for the challenge of learning something new and the health benefits that will accompany it. Looking forward to your new book, Karen!
Yessss I took swim lessons this year and loved learning at 62 years of age !! I now need to get in the pool to practice what I’ve learned on a consistent basis !!!
I'm an insatiable WONDER-SEEKER 💖I would love to spend more time on hobbies, but working two jobs, it's a constant challenge. But I do have a patio garden that I love. And books, there's always books.
Here’s the great news — your garden counts! In fact, study after study shows that gardening is a POWERFUL hobby: in addition to being one of the hobbies that strongly correlates to living a long, healthy life, gardening taps into curiosity, mindfulness, practicing self-compassion, accessing wonder and awe — all Attributes of Intentional Amateurism. Well done!
Based on your quiz I’m a Learner and it feels so spot on. Im currently taking 2 pottery classes a week, and creative pursuits are my thing. On the other hand my job is the exact opposite. Heavily regulated and borderline technical. It has a creative aspect but nothing like my hobby life.
My career goal has always been, "to make enough money to live my real life." My real life is spending time by myself, time with friends/spouse/family, and doing hobbies. I used to describe a hobby as "that thing that you do, that when you do it, you go, "Ahhhhhh...I need to do this more."" It's the thing that fills you up with good feelings, that nourishes and calms you, and sets your head straight.
I'm always intrigued by what people do for a living and what they WANT to do. My first get-to-know you question is always, "If you didn't have to work for a living, what would you do?" It reveals so much about people.
I enjoyed your quiz, thank you, Karen! I'm a learner, which totally fits. My current hobby is illustrating leather - I draw on shoes, clothes and purses, and turn scuffed/damaged/unloved things into something beautiful.

I love this! I embarked on a swimming practice when writing the book and was surprised how meditative it was for me. I hope you love it!
Cool!

That’s exciting, Heather! Get back in there! 😁

CONTEMPLATIVE — I guess this explains why I am so into gardening right now. I crave getting my hands in dirt. Incredible how calming it is.
Even though I am a LEARNER, my favourite hobbies — pottery, SCUBA — are also extremely contemplative. I love this for you!
I can totally see bits of most/all the profiles in my hobby life!
I’m a LEARNER! No surprise as I am a teacher. 😊
I love this — that not only do you teach, but you have a passion for learning. Amazing!
My rituals are non negotiable and I had some of them before retirement which set me up well !
